Safe Forklift Driving

(In house training)

Venue: Company Premise(To be conducted in Bahasa Malaysia )  

 

Course Objectives 

At the end of the training session participants (Forklift drivers, etc.) shall be able to: 

  • Carry out the pre-operational and operational checks and inspections effectively;
  • Describe the stability (center of gravity) details of the Forklift;
  • Explain how to determine the safe working load of a Forklift;
  • Identify what can and cannot be lifted on a Forklift;
  • Describe the term “load centre”;
  • Name the major causes of lateral and longitudinal instability;
  • State safe operating procedures for stacking, restacking, loading, and unloading of load including parking procedures;
  • Name nine operational rules ;
  • Understand how a forklift can tip-over and
  • Demonstrate (hands-on) to drive the forklift safely.

Objective test  

 

Theory Component will cover: 

  • Functions of powered industrial trucks.
  • Understand the information shown on a data plate
  • Understand the forces that cause tipovers, forklift design considerations, safety ratings and the "stability triangle."
  • Understand the elements of safe movement of a powered industrial truck.
  • Understand the differences between an automobile and a powered industrial truck.
  • Recognize the safety hazards associated with operating a powered industrial.
  • Causes of forklift accidents.

  

Forklift checks and inspections 

  • Understand the purpose and importance of pre-operational and operational checkouts.

  

Loads handling 

  • Understand the elements of load lifting safety.
  • Understand the safe operating procedures for raising and lowering loads in aisles and racks.

  

Battery Charging/Diesel/Petrol/LPG filling 

  • Understand the elements and procedures of safe changing and charging batteries.
  • Filling procedures and maintenance.

   

Practical (hands-on) Component will cover 

  • Forklift familiarization
  • Pre-operational and operational checks and inspections
  • One to one driving couched by the instructor
  • Practical driving test.   

 

Note: This is an in-house program, client to provide: 

  • 1 unit forklift
  • 24 Pallets (it can be wooden or plastic)
  • 8 nos. empty metal or plastic drums (200 liter capacity)
  • An open space measuring approximately 30’ X 40’

  

Methodology 

  • Classroom lectures
  • LCD Presentation;
  • CD clip on “Safe Forklift Driving”
  • Actual forklift accident case study
  • Hands-on driving by drivers assisted by instructor.

   

Course Leader ~ Encik Abdul Rahim Jasmin 

Encik Abdul Rahim Jasmin holds a Diploma in Safety Engineering Technology, US; is a Certified Program Leader from Kepner Tregoe Incorporated, US and a Registered Safety Officer from DOSH, Malaysia.

He is also an approved DOSH CISHO’s course trainer He has presented various safety & health papers in seminars conducted by DOSH and FMM and have also conducted numerous in-house and public Safety and Health related courses for Workers, Supervisors, Engineers, Executives and Managers in areas such as Safety and Health in Manufacturing, Certificate in Safety & Health Officers Course, Certification on Safe Forklift Driving, Warehouse Safety Management, Certificate in Human Resource Management, Fire Prevention and Control, Electrical Safety, Risk Assessment & Control, Safe Operation of Machine, Safe Machine Guarding, Hazcom & Chemical Safety, Emergency Response to Chemical Spill, Confined Space, Safety & Health Management, and many others.

Some of the manufacturing organizations that En. Rahim has conducted courses are: B Braun, BASF, Cryovac, Enkei, Eastman Color, Janakuasa Segari, Joubert, Konsortium Logistic, Logi Air Ulu Langat, PPG, Power Tek, Percetakan Nasional, Whitehorse and many others. In the past, he has worked as a Production/Warehouse Executive, Superintendent and Industrial Engineer with international companies manufacturing rubber products, food, drinks and ABS pipes. Besides this, En. Rahim has also more than 16 years of hands-on experience in Environmental, Safety and Health where he was the ESH Manager in a large multinational manufacturing company in Perak, Malaysia. 

He is also a Member of the National Safety Council, US and an active Environmental, Safety and Health committee member with the FMM Perak Branch and has written a number of Safety and Health Manuals for SMI industries.
